Cordyceps sinensis has been known for thousands of years, it was rediscovered in old Chinese medical books and Tibetan medicine. It is a amazingly rare combination of a caterpillar and a fungus and found at altitudes above 4500m in Sikkim.(1) Ancient healers used cordyceps for treating over 21 ailments including; cancer, bronchial asthma, bronchitis, TB, diabetes, cough and cold, erectile dysfunction, BHP, jaundice, alcoholic hepatitis, etc. It is said that the local herders observed goat and sheep consuming the fungus. They later noted that the sheep and goats who consume the fungus became significantly stronger and stout. A recent study found that Cordyceps reduced heart injuries in rats with chronic kidney disease. (2). Cordyceps have been shown to decrease triglyceride levels in mice. Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood and recent studies show high levels of fat are linked to a greater risk of heart disease (3).
